Who We are..
Shari Railton
For more than 40 years, I dedicated my career to caring for patients as a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist. During that time, I worked across multiple imaging specialties, including Radiology, Mammography, MRI, Lithotripsy, CT, Surgery, and Interventional Radiology. The final 18 years of my career were spent helping establish and grow a new MRI department, where I served as the department’s lead technologist. In 2016, I became a certified Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO), responsible for helping ensure the safety of our patients, healthcare team, and MRI environment.
Everything changed after the tragic loss of a patient who was also a friend. During that emergency, I realized there was no alarm system at the patient’s side or within the MRI room that would allow me to immediately summon help while remaining with the patient. I knew there had to be a better way.
Later, while working in MRI, the solution became clear. With the guidance of a retired MRI engineer and trusted friend, I designed and built the first prototype of what has since evolved into the Imaging Tech Alarm System (ITAS).
Today, as a retired MRI technologist, my mission is to bring ITAS to MRI departments everywhere. My goal is simple: to ensure that no MRI technologist has to face an emergency alone and that every patient and healthcare professional benefits from a safer MRI environment.
..and our story
Sid Perkins
I have over 40 years of experience in manufacturing and design across various disciplines, including electronics, mechanical engineering, machining, composites, casting, surface finishing techniques, and assembly. My expertise includes:
Evaluating and improving manufacturing processes
Conducting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and preventive action assessments
Applying and teaching Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for risk analysis in design and manufacturing environments
Teaching process assessment techniques, RCCA, and APQP
Familiarity with industry standards
Conducting and teaching risk management and risk analysis
When Shari shared the story about her invention, I was immediately intrigued. As an engineer with a background in risk analysis, I saw an opportunity to contribute. By collaborating with Shari and leveraging her MRI expertise alongside my engineering skills, I worked to refine her original design to make improvements and reduce any risks. After several iterations, we created a system that is user-friendly, effective, comprehensive, and highly reliable.
I’ve always enjoyed the creative process, but it’s especially rewarding to be part of something with such potential to make a meaningful impact and improve many lives.
